A New Thing
Isaiah 43:18-19
"Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland."
In these verses, God encourages His people to move beyond their past and to embrace the new work He is doing. The command to "forget the former things" is not about ignoring the past but about not allowing it to limit our vision of what God can do in the future. God is always at work, bringing about newness and renewal, even in the most barren and challenging circumstances.
Embracing God's New Work
God’s declaration of "doing a new thing" invites us to open our eyes and hearts to the fresh ways He is moving in our lives. It challenges us to let go of the old, whether it be past successes or failures, and to trust in God’s ability to bring about transformation. Embracing God’s new work requires faith, a willingness to step into the unknown, and a readiness to see God’s hand at work in unexpected places.
God's Creativity and Renewal
The imagery of making "a way in the wilderness" and "streams in the wasteland" highlights God’s creativity and power to bring life out of desolation. Where we see obstacles, God sees opportunities for renewal. His ability to create pathways where none existed and to bring refreshing waters into dry places demonstrates His commitment to our restoration and growth. This encourages us to trust in God’s capacity to bring newness and hope into every area of our lives.
"Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!" — 2 Corinthians 5:17
Living in the Newness of Life
Living in the newness of life that God provides means continually looking forward to what He is doing next. It involves a mindset of expectancy, knowing that God is always at work to bring about His purposes. As we live in this newness, we become a reflection of God’s transformative power, bringing hope and renewal to those around us. Our lives become a testimony to the fact that God is always creating, always redeeming, and always making all things new.
A Prayer for Embracing God's New Work
Lord, we thank You for the new things You are doing in our lives. Help us to let go of the past and to embrace the new work You are bringing about. We pray for each person reading this, for their families, and for the challenges they may be facing. May they perceive Your hand at work and be encouraged by Your creativity and renewal. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
