None Like Our God
Isaiah 46:5-7
"With whom will you compare me or count me equal? To whom will you liken me that we may be compared? Some pour out gold from their bags and weigh out silver on the scales; they hire a goldsmith to make it into a god, and they bow down and worship it. They lift it to their shoulders and carry it; they set it up in its place, and there it stands. From that spot it cannot move. Even though someone cries out to it, it cannot answer; it cannot save them from their troubles."
In these verses, God highlights the absurdity of idolatry by contrasting Himself with the lifeless idols that people create. While idols are made by human hands and are powerless to save, God is the living and all-powerful Creator, unmatched and unequaled. This passage invites us to reflect on the uniqueness of God, who stands alone as the only true God worthy of our worship and trust.
The Uniqueness of God
God begins by asking rhetorical questions that emphasize His uniqueness: "With whom will you compare me or count me equal?" God Who Carries Us
Isaiah 46:3-4
"Listen to me, you descendants of Jacob, all the remnant of the people of Israel, you whom I have upheld since your birth, and have carried since you were born. Even to your old age and gray hairs I am he, I am he who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you."
In these verses, God offers a profound message of comfort and assurance to His people. Unlike the idols described earlier in the chapter that must be carried by their followers, God is the one who carries and sustains His people. From birth to old age, God promises His constant presence and care. This passage invites us to trust in God’s sustaining power and to find peace in knowing that He is always with us, carrying us through every season of life.
God’s Faithfulness from Birth to Old Age
God’s declaration that He has upheld His people since birth and will continue to do so until their old age is a powerful reminder of His unchanging faithfulness. From the moment we are born, God is there, caring for us, guiding us, and providing for our needs. As we journey through life, facing its various challenges and stages, we can rest in the assurance that God will never leave us. His commitment to us is lifelong, and He promises to sustain us through every trial and triumph.

The Futility of Idols
Isaiah 46:1-2
"Bel bows down, Nebo stoops low; their idols are borne by beasts of burden. The images that are carried about are burdensome, a burden for the weary. They stoop and bow down together; unable to rescue the burden, they themselves go off into captivity."
In these verses, Isaiah paints a vivid picture of the futility and burden of idolatry. The gods of Babylon, Bel and Nebo, are depicted as powerless and burdensome idols that must be carried by beasts of burden. Rather than providing deliverance, these idols add to the burden of those who trust in them. Ultimately, they are unable to save themselves or their worshippers, and they too go into captivity. This passage calls us to recognize the emptiness of trusting in anything other than the one true God.
The Burden of Idolatry

I have not spoken in secret, from somewhere in a land of darkness; I have not said to Jacob’s descendants, "Seek me in vain." I, the Lord, speak the truth; I declare what is right.'"

"Truly you are a God who has been hiding himself, the God and Savior of Israel. All the makers of idols will be put to shame and disgraced; they will go off into disgrace together. But Israel will be saved by the Lord with an everlasting salvation; you will never be put to shame or disgraced, to ages everlasting."

Lord, we thank You for Your wisdom and for the salvation You offer, even when Your ways are hidden from us. Help us to trust in You, knowing that Your plans are always for our good and Your glory. We pray for each person reading this, for their families, and for the challenges they may be facing. May they find peace in Your mysterious yet faithful guidance and hold fast to the promise of everlasting salvation. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
