Chosen and Appointed
John 15:16
"You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you."
In this passage, Jesus tells His disciples that they have been chosen and appointed by Him to bear lasting fruit. This calling emphasizes the intentionality and purpose of our relationship with Christ. We are not here by accident; we are chosen by Jesus to fulfill a specific mission and bear fruit in His name.
Understanding Being Chosen and Appointed
Divine Purpose
Being chosen and appointed by Jesus means that we have a divine purpose. It is a reminder that our lives have meaning and significance beyond our understanding. Jesus has selected us for a specific role in His kingdom, and it is our responsibility to embrace this calling and live out our purpose.
Significance of Our Calling
Bearing Lasting Fruit
The fruit that Jesus speaks of is not temporary or superficial; it is lasting and eternal. This fruit includes the impact we have on others through our faith, love, and actions. As we abide in Christ and live out our calling, we bear fruit that brings glory to God and influences the world for His kingdom.
"For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do." — Ephesians 2:10
Living Out Our Calling
Daily Dependence on Jesus
Living out our calling involves daily dependence on Jesus for guidance and strength. It means seeking His will through prayer, studying His Word, and being attentive to the Holy Spirit's leading. By doing so, we fulfill the purpose for which we have been chosen and appointed.
As we reflect on John 15:16, let us be inspired by the knowledge that we are chosen and appointed by Jesus. Let our lives be a testament to the purpose and mission that God has given us.
