Our Response to God's Word
Jeremiah 36:23-24
"Whenever Jehudi had read three or four columns of the scroll, the king cut them off with a scribe's knife and threw them into the firepot, until the entire scroll was burned in the fire. The king and all his attendants who heard all these words showed no fear, nor did they tear their clothes."
In this passage, King Jehoiakim's response to God's Word is one of rejection and defiance. Instead of heeding the warnings and instructions, he chose to destroy the scroll containing God's message. This story serves as a stark reminder of the importance of how we respond to God's Word in our lives.
Understanding the Importance of Response
Acceptance or Rejection
Our response to God's Word is crucial. We can either accept His message with humility and obedience or reject it with defiance and indifference. The story of King Jehoiakim illustrates the consequences of rejecting God's Word and the importance of responding with a receptive and obedient heart.
The Consequences of Rejection
Spiritual Blindness
King Jehoiakim's rejection of God's Word led to spiritual blindness and hardening of heart. He and his attendants showed no fear or remorse, highlighting the danger of ignoring God's instructions. This rejection not only affects our relationship with God but also leads to negative consequences in our lives.

"Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says." — James 1:22

Embracing God's Word
A Receptive Heart
Embracing God's Word involves having a receptive heart that is willing to listen and obey. It means allowing His message to transform our lives and guide our actions. As we embrace His Word, we experience spiritual growth and alignment with His will, leading to a deeper relationship with Him.
As we reflect on the story in Jeremiah 36, let us examine our own response to God's Word and commit to embracing His message with humility and obedience.
Closing Thoughts
Faithfulness to God's Word
Remember, our response to God's Word is a reflection of our relationship with Him. Commit yourself to accepting His message with humility and obedience. Allow His Word to transform your life and guide your actions. Let your response to God's Word be one of faithfulness and reverence.
Practical Application
Living by God's Word
Here are a few practical steps to help you embrace God's Word and live in obedience to His message:
  1. Spend time in prayer, asking God to open your heart to His Word and to help you respond with humility and obedience.
  2. Read and meditate on scripture, focusing on passages that challenge and encourage you to align your life with God's instructions.
  3. Reflect on areas of your life where you may be resisting God's Word and seek to make changes that honor His message.
  4. Seek accountability from trusted spiritual mentors who can support and encourage you in your journey of obedience.
  5. Live with an attitude of reverence and commitment to God's Word, allowing it to guide your decisions and actions.
Final Encouragement
Commitment to God's Word
Our response to God's Word is essential for our spiritual growth and relationship with Him. Embrace His message with humility and obedience, and allow it to transform your life. Live in faithfulness to His Word and experience the blessings of a deeper relationship with God.
