Preparing for Thanksgiving: Remembering God’s Past Faithfulness

As we draw even closer to Thanksgiving, it’s essential to pause and remember the ways God has been faithful to us in the past. Reflecting on His past works strengthens our faith and reminds us that His love and provision are constants in our lives.

Scripture: Deuteronomy 7:9

"Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love him and keep his commandments." (Deuteronomy 7:9, NIV)

Devotion

Why: As we prepare for Thanksgiving, reflecting on God’s past faithfulness helps us to cultivate a heart of gratitude. It’s easy to become overwhelmed by present challenges, but remembering how God has guided and provided for us in the past gives us confidence in His continued faithfulness.

Interpretation: This verse from Deuteronomy highlights God’s unchanging nature and His commitment to keeping His promises. Remembering His past deeds is an act of worship that deepens our trust in Him and reinforces our gratitude for His steadfast love.

Application

Take some time today to reflect on the specific ways God has shown His faithfulness in your life. Write down these moments of divine intervention, provision, and guidance. Use this list as a reminder of God’s unwavering love as you prepare your heart for Thanksgiving.

"I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago." - Psalm 77:11

Prayer

Heavenly Father, we thank You for Your faithfulness throughout our lives. As we approach Thanksgiving, help us to remember the many ways You have provided, guided, and loved us. Strengthen our faith as we reflect on Your past deeds, and let our hearts overflow with gratitude. In Jesus' name, Amen.
