The Christmas Story: Jesus’ Ascension and PromiseScripture Reading"After he said this, he was taken up before their very eyes, and a cloud hid him from their sight. They were looking intently up into the sky as he was going when suddenly two men dressed in white stood beside them." "He who was seated on the right hand of God will come with the clouds of heaven." ReflectionJesus' ascension marks a pivotal moment in the story of redemption, signaling both the completion of His earthly ministry and the beginning of a new phase in God's redemptive plan. In Acts 1:9-11, we witness Jesus being taken up to heaven in the presence of His disciples, accompanied by the promise of His return. This event serves as a reassurance that while Jesus is no longer physically present on earth, His presence continues through the Holy Spirit. The ascension emphasizes the divine authority of Jesus and His ongoing role as our intercessor. By ascending to heaven, Jesus ensures that He remains actively involved in the lives of believers, guiding and empowering the Church to fulfill its mission. The promise of His return, as foretold in Matthew 24:30, instills hope and anticipation, reminding us that the story of redemption is not yet complete. Jesus' ascension also signifies the inauguration of His eternal reign, assuring believers that they are under the authority of a sovereign King who reigns with justice and mercy. This assurance empowers Christians to live confidently, knowing that their Savior is both above and with them, working all things together for their good and God's glory. PrayerHeavenly Father, we thank You for the ascension of Jesus Christ and the promise of His return. Help us to live in the light of this promise, remaining faithful and steadfast as we await His glorious coming. Empower us through the Holy Spirit to carry out the mission You have entrusted to the Church, reflecting Jesus' authority and love in all we do. May we find hope and strength in knowing that our Savior reigns and will return to complete the work of redemption. In Jesus' name, Amen.
