The One True God
Isaiah 45:18-19
"For this is what the Lord says— he who created the heavens, he is God; he who fashioned and made the earth, he founded it; he did not create it to be empty, but formed it to be inhabited— he says: 'I am the Lord, and there is no other. I have not spoken in secret, from somewhere in a land of darkness; I have not said to Jacob’s descendants, "Seek me in vain." I, the Lord, speak the truth; I declare what is right.'"
In these verses, God declares His uniqueness and the truth of His revelation. As the Creator of the heavens and the earth, God stands alone as the one true God. He contrasts Himself with the false gods that others might worship, emphasizing that His words are not hidden or secretive, but open and true. This passage calls us to recognize God as the sole source of truth and righteousness, and to trust in His clear and direct revelation.
God's Uniqueness as Creator
The passage begins by affirming God as the Creator of all things. He "created the heavens" and "fashioned and made the earth." This act of creation establishes God’s authority and sets Him apart from all other so-called gods. The universe bears witness to the reality that there is only one true God, who not only made everything but did so with purpose. God’s intention for creation is life and flourishing, not emptiness. This understanding calls us to honor God as the Creator and to seek to live in alignment with His purposes for creation.
The Clarity of God's Revelation
God emphasizes that He has not spoken "in secret" or "from somewhere in a land of darkness." His revelation is clear and accessible to those who seek Him. Unlike the false gods, who offer nothing but confusion and false promises, God’s words are true and reliable. This truth gives us confidence that when we seek God, we do so with the assurance that He will reveal Himself to us. He does not hide from us but invites us into a relationship based on His truth and righteousness.
"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." — John 1:1
Trusting in God's Truth and Righteousness
God declares, "I, the Lord, speak the truth; I declare what is right." This affirmation of God’s truthfulness and righteousness assures us that His words and actions are always just and good. In a world where truth can often seem relative and righteousness hard to find, God’s revelation stands as a beacon of light. We are called to trust in His truth, knowing that it is unchanging and reliable. By aligning our lives with God’s revealed truth, we find a sure foundation in a world of uncertainty.
A Prayer for Trusting in God's Revelation
Lord, we thank You for revealing Yourself to us as the one true God. Help us to trust in Your truth and to live in a way that honors Your righteousness. We pray for each person reading this, for their families, and for the challenges they may be facing. May they seek You with confidence, knowing that You speak clearly and truthfully, and may their lives be grounded in Your unchanging word. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
